The Science
What does an indoor air quality test check for?
Professional air quality testing analyzes the air inside your home for contaminants that can affect your health, comfort, and property value.
Mold Spores
Air samples identify specific mold species (Aspergillus, Penicillium, Stachybotrys, Cladosporium, and others) and their concentration levels. Indoor counts are compared against outdoor baseline readings to determine if levels are elevated.
Allergens & Particulates
Testing reveals biological particulates, dust, pollen, pet dander concentrations, and other allergens that can trigger respiratory issues, chronic congestion, and allergic reactions — especially in older homes with aging HVAC systems.
PRO-LAB Lab Analysis
All samples are analyzed by a PRO-LAB certified laboratory — the gold standard in environmental testing. Results include a detailed written report with species identification, concentration data, and clear interpretation.
The Process
How does indoor air quality testing work?
Bob follows a systematic, scientifically rigorous process to give you clear, actionable data about your indoor air. Every test includes both indoor and outdoor sampling — because knowing what's normal outside is essential to interpreting what's happening inside.
Samples are collected using calibrated air sampling pumps and spore trap cassettes placed in areas of concern. Bob draws air through the cassettes at a controlled flow rate, capturing airborne particles for laboratory analysis.
After results return from the PRO-LAB certified lab (typically 2-3 business days), Bob calls you to walk through every finding. No jargon, no panic — just honest interpretation and objective recommendations.
When to Test
When should you get indoor air quality testing?
Buying or Selling a Home
Air quality testing before closing gives buyers objective data about what they're breathing. For sellers, a clean air quality report builds buyer confidence and can prevent deal-breaking surprises during negotiations.
Unexplained Health Symptoms
Persistent allergies, headaches, respiratory issues, eye irritation, or fatigue that improve when you leave home can indicate elevated indoor contaminants. Testing identifies exactly what's causing your symptoms.
Musty Odors or Visible Moisture
Musty smells — especially in basements, bathrooms, or near HVAC systems — often indicate hidden mold growth. Air quality testing reveals whether mold spores are elevated throughout the home, not just where you can see or smell them.
After Water Damage or Renovation
Water intrusion from flooding, pipe bursts, or roof leaks can cause mold to develop within 24-48 hours. Renovations can disturb trapped contaminants. Testing confirms whether your indoor air is safe to breathe.
Baseline Testing for Older Homes
Philadelphia-area homes built before 1980 may have aging HVAC systems, inadequate ventilation, and construction materials that compromise air quality. Baseline testing gives you a clear picture of your indoor environment.
